I'm pretty sure Chelsea was "wantonly" throwing around cash well before 2007. Man City was throwing around money from 2009 onwards (not 2011). Weird selection of years, Nick. Very random.

Nonsense. Anyone who says United were doing fine without Rooney was, and still is wrong. United did not score a goal in those "magical" 56 minutes (Madrid scored all the goals in that night), Giggs did not do anything Rooney couldn't have. I think United would still be in the tournament if he'd played Rooney and not Giggs. He, for me, is the best player in the United team, Lewandowski can only dream of adding to a team what Rooney does, so that suggestion is rubbish. The thing is everyone thinks Rooney is this out and out striker, when he isn't. Truth is the only positions that remain today in football are defensive ones. Midfielders often do as they please, so do wingers, and strikers (where was van Persie playing against Madrid?). Rooney is like the Kaka of 07, he needs a free role, not tasked with scoring, or assisting. That's when he excels, like against Norwich, and that "he wasn't fit excuse is nonsense. He could have rested afterwards he played 70+ minutes against Norwich. He shouldn't be sold, it would just be a massive mistake. Like not playing him against Madrid.

Who's 'Ronney'? I'm confused as to whether you're talking about Rooney, Ronaldo or some genetically modified hybrid.

Not sure what you all talking about, Ronney is the main man in United, Ronaldo left in 2009 and we lost the league once since and there is no doubt that Ronney was the cause. This season SAF killed Ronney by placing him all over ( where Roo did well all over). So Yes, he is a world class player that score, defend, and make amazing passes. by the way we started attacking when he came in vs Madrid.

Rooney's a fine player but ever since he held the club to ransom I've wanted him out of United, he shouldn't be allowed to get away with behaviour like that, no matter how many goals he scores or how well he plays. One caveat though, he must leave England.

Rooney was always a good player - but not a great one... the English media built him up time and time again. Played poor in last two big tournaments for England.. played 1 good season (consistently) for UTD and was considered to be world class. He is a the English John Hartson... not he English Pele.

I have my doubts about the story, Rooney would not want to go that's for sure especially earning what he does. What does make me slightly wonder though is why all of a sudden are the media screaming he is going to leave, do they know something we don't. I can see why United's owners/Ferguson would want to get rid of him. The saving on his wages might be able to get two very talented youngsters for the price. It would would be unusual to get rid of him with 2 years to go to the end of his contract I would of thought 1 year to go would be better but perhaps the owners want money? This might be the same reason why Chelsea want to offload Lampard I doubt though we will ever find the truth untill he goes on the list.

Rooney wasn't fit. That was why he didn't start. He is entirely reliable, creative and a goal threat. He would have offered more than RVP did, he just simply wasn't ready to return for this game, and you could see it when he came on. Again, he's not going anywhere, he simply wasn't fit for the game. Is Jones off because he wasn't played? No, of course fucking not!
