Michael Owen: Corporate Boy Scout Of A Footballer

Why does nobody but Michael Owen and various people at the FA/BBC love Michael Owen? Despite what the TV tells us, people really don't seem to like him...

Michael Owen what a top quality player he was in his day. When injury free he would have walked into any prem team. Many highlights from his career, but my personal favorite was when he stripped down to his kit when he thought he had one a prem league winners medal at the end of last season....Priceless

"Why did he bother retiring? He had a free season ticket to watch all the games, and a front row seat on the bench." - is it any wonder he retired? you really wanna have to watch Stoke play every week?

A really sad article. Try judging him on his football rather than his personality. I can only assume the journalist was busy playing with her Barbie dolls when he was wowing myself and friends with his World Cup exploits against Argentina et al. I for one like him for his footballing abilities and he was one of the first footballers to really engage with fans on Twitter so fair play to him or that

"Michael Who?? Good read. He is retired? Why did he bother retiring? He had a free season ticket to watch all the games, and a front row seat on the bench." Probably because he doesn't like football. Not that hard to believe

Didn't he effectively retire while still being paid by Manchester United? 15 years after he made a mark on football surely the presiding sentiment on Michael Owen is "what a waste of talent". He could have been a great, instead he retires a poor indictment of mercenary footballers, taking the money but doing f**k all to deserve it

Becks7. Dont be thick. All of that achieved during a few short years at at Liverpool. Bench warming or injured for the MAJORITY of his career. Gullit, Zola, Figo, Zidane, Giggs, Maldini, Seedorf, Lampard, Scholes, hell even Rio and Becks himself. A random selection of ACTUAL great players who had great ACTUAL careers. Owen was great for the briefest of times.

@ak, dunno if you've noticed but most people who aren't Chelsea fans hate John Terry and not even all Man U fans are that keen on Rooney these days, so I think you chose rather poorly.

Never warmed to MO. Always seemed that he had more confidence than his ability backed up. Arrogant people tend not to be popular..

I

m curious as to what image Real Madrid are trying to re-establish as I always thought their pre-Jose image was one of a bunch of a classless bullies tapping up whoever they wanted while living it large on borrowed money they're never going to pay back.
