The Premier League is so all-encompassing that when it breaks thumb-twiddling and boredom ensues. It would help if England games weren't such damn dull occasions...

God, you're a miserable bugger, aren't you JN. You're quite right though. As is @quoththeraven, that sounds like an excellent idea, although it would men no summer breaks ever again for a country's better players. But summer breaks are for schoolkids.

Have to disagree with this piece, although I have a different perspective as an Irish fan. With our team there's a distinct lack of any hype or fuss because we've never been that good and lately Trap has killed all attacking ambition in our side by playing the likes of Paul Green over McCarthy and Holohan. Even so, I still get childishly excited before every game.

Most of us agree, the current structure of international football from a European perspective is a hindrance. A possible solution could be for the top 12 ranked teams to qualify automatically with the rest of the participants having to scrap it out for qualification. With the automatic qualifiers being decided two years before the date of the actual tournament. International friendly matches could still take place but during the week.

The Premier League is already done and dusted, only thing interesting is the relegation race and perhaps a surprise or two in the 4th place. I'd trade both of that tedium for an exciting premier league fight for the title, so excuse me if I'm not on the intentional game hate bandwagon this year.

There are 38 Premier League games a season for each club. Without international breaks there would be 38 Premier League games a season for each club. I bet the same people who moan about the breaks are the same ones who love midweek club games, which only exist due to the weekends club football can't be played (such as this coming weekend).

@englandgrim (Tottenham Hotspur) ... its nothing to do with a 'product' being interrupted, its about adding excitement to what is a tedious campaign, due to the fact it is spread out over two years (near enough). Look at it this way, lets say for example England beat San Marino (as expected) and Moldova pull off a draw against Montenegro, England then draw with Montenegro, The top two teams are on 11 points (England and Montenegro) exciting stuff, except wait, it won't be until 7th of June the next installment takes place (and the 6th of September for England's next game!!). Now will you watch Montenegro V Ukraine on June 7th? Probably not, but I bet you (and most of the football following country) would in a similar way we watch the Euros/WC if it were a summer tournament. On the other side the run in for the PL/La Liga/Bundesliga has been stopped. That's what its about.

Oh and just to show how stupid it will become soon Gibraltar are 'confident' of getting UEFA membership in may, meaning they can compete in qualifying for Euro '16, what next? Isle of man? Jersey? The Sheltlands?

I disagree. The worst thing about international breaks are articles like this, followed by numerous inane comments from plastic fans, upset their 'product' has been interrupted for a week. There are still some of us who care about the national team. Besides, the last two internationals against Brazil and Sweden (midweek fixtures) have been highly enjoyable, and haven't delayed your precious premier league. I agree about the ITV coverage though.
