Well, the main difference is that two of them have a head for figures and are good with money, the other two are accountants and bankers.

In my opinion, games like this should be absolute landslides, and I do mean thrashings. The level that our players are supposed to play at, in comparison to a side who have won one game in their entire lives, is ludicrous. I don't care how well organised they are, it's San Marino. Their whole national population is smaller than the capacity of Anfield. We should be destroying them. Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard should be scoring hattricks. Each........... Maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but you see my point? I'm not intending to be disrespectful, but this is a part-time team of plumbers and bin men playing professional players from the biggest clubs in the Premier League who earn more in a week than some of these chaps earn ten years.

I agree with this. Having looked at the odds for tonight¿s game, moreso at the odds for 5-0, 6-0, 7-0 and there abouts (which range from 6/1 for 5-0 to 8/1 for 7-0), would it be worthwhile sticking out a 3-4-3 and try and give San Marino an absolute whipping, maybe even (gulp) a 3-3-4? Playing a 4-4-2 for example means that we are likely to secure a win (duh, I hope), but would it not be worth going absolute hell for leather and just going banzai on them? Play 3 up front, 4 in midfield and 3 at the back. Sure they may get a goal, maybe 2, (maybe 3) but surely with that format we¿d knock in more than them, far more, and if it went well we could be looking at double figures. To hell with trying to keep a clean sheet, let¿s go out there with gay abandon and play Wembley (remember that?), each player on the pitch for us HAS to score one. I hope this doesn¿t come across as derogatory to San Marino, but we should win whatever formation we play, I just don¿t want to see us knocking the ball around at the back at 3-0 up half way through the second half. Who knows, goal difference may come into consideration, and yes, I know this could backfire, but worth it, at the very least to make tonight worth watching.

I think laudrups plan on using ki-sung yung (sp?) as a centre back in the COC final can come in here and be a potential plan. Against a side at below your level and knowing there would be limited attacking intent, playing a deep lying creative midfielder (as long as he has some defensive ability) is genius. Not only does it provide additional penetration with a skilled passer but the midfielder-cum-defender will also have far, far more space to play I allows them to pick out the passes. Michael Carrick would suit the position for England along a genuine deep defender as he is a good passer and had played in defence quite a few times. It's be a bold move but laudrup proved how well it can work.

If we need goals then we should play players that can score goals, it's also a game against a bunch of minnows so playing a defensive midfielder should be mute, I expect at least 75% of the play to take place in the San Marino half of the pitch. I would play a 4-3-3, it's a game you could probably give a few players some much needed experience, with Forster, Caulker and Walker brought in to join Lescott and Baines at the back. A midfield trio of Gerrard, Lampard and Cleverly and a front three of Young/Oxlaide-Chamberlain, Rooney and Walcott. A very attack minded team and giving a few players the experience needed in defence.

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
