Fast Start Again The Basis Of Liverpool's Success

Liverpool have now scored 15 goals in the first 15 minutes of matches in the Premier League. Quick starts have been the backbone of a title bid that looks likely to succeed.

Liverpool v Cardiff City
Luis Suarez has scored 17 times in 11 Premier League appearances this season, an extraordinary stat by anyone's standards. Indeed 'El Pistolero' has scored more this season than the entire Cardiff team, despite being banned for the first six games after showing his gnashers to Branislav Ivanovic last term. He is as short as 6/4 in places to score first against the Bluebirds but such is his current tremendousness, I reckon 2/1 quotes are actually worth a lump.
Betting: Suarez to score first at 2/1 (Paddy Power)

Crystal Palace v Newcastle
Dead parrots just a few short weeks ago, the Eagles are now soaring (well, flapping their wings aggressively anyway) and I reckon they look value at better than 2/1 to see off the Magpies this weekend. Newcastle are on a decent run themselves but have a poor record in London generally and Palace know a win could lift them outside the bottom three which would be a huge psychological boost before Christmas.
Betting: Crystal Palace to win at 23/10 (Bet Victor)

Fulham v Manchester City
I cannot make any sense of Manchester City's league form away from the Etihad this season. On home soil they have won eight in a row and scored a thumping 35 goals in the process. Away from Manchester though they have been dog sh*te, for the most part. With Sergio Aguero out it is now up to others to step up to the plate and David Silva has looked really sharp since his return. The jinky Spaniard is 17/2 to score first at Craven Cottage and that looks a decent bet given the expansive role he is given in the side.
Betting: Silva to score first at 17/2 (Bet Victor)

Manchester United v West Ham
Don't talk to me about West Ham. Two wins from ten going into their League Cup quarter-final with Tottenham in the week and struggling for goals. Ergo I smashed into Spurs with both barrels. The end result is I am now in the unenviable position of having to procure Christmas presents and food for the family by fair means or foul. Incidentally, does anyone know the current legal penalties around swan rustling? Or indeed whether you can cook swans in conventional ovens?
Betting: Manchester United to win to nil at 5/4 (Bet Victor)

Stoke v Aston Villa
Two teams really struggling at the wrong end of the table and two sides that cannot buy a goal at time of writing. Stoke have drawn a blank in four of their last five competitive matches so there could be mileage in backing Villa to pinch three points at the Britannia.
Betting: Aston Villa to win to nil at 9/2 (Paddy Power)

Sunderland v Norwich
Cast adrift at the bottom, it's sh*t or bust time for Sunderland. The Black Cats should be buoyed by their League Cup win over Chelsea in the week and despite what the table tells us this looks a very winnable game. The Canaries have picked up four points from their last two matches but didn't look anything flash against Fulham last time out and I reckon Sunderland can grind out a win in Baltic temperatures on Wearside.
Betting: Sunderland to beat Norwich at 11/10 (Ladbrokes)

West Brom v Hull City
"If you want loyalty, get a dog". So said irascible old boxing promoter Mickey Duffy when describing working relationships in the noble art and the same can be said of football, as Steve Clarke found out to his cost this week. Clarke guided West Brom to their best ever Premier League finish last season but is now signing on. Proof, if proof is needed, that while the rewards for the winners in the Premier League are vast, for the losers the axe falls swiftly and violently. Sod's law suggests that the Baggies will now beat Hull but I am more inclined to call this as a draw.
Betting: West Brom and Hull to draw 1-1 at 13/2 (Bet Victor)

Southampton v Tottenham
Hate is a strong word. But I f*cking hate Tottenham right now. And when my six-year-old nephew looks at me with hurt in his eyes on December 25 asking why I could only give him a £2.99 copy of Willie Thorne's autobiography (it's must-read material by the way) as a Christmas present I will lay the blame squarely at the door of Tim Sherwood. For with Spurs 1-0 against West Ham with just over 10 minutes left in the week, Terrible Tim decided to tinker with the formation and 'shore things up'. This resulted in a 2-1 loss and sent me hurtling into financial meltdown, sobbing uncontrollably by the Christmas tree. The only solace for me is the knowledge that such poor judgement has almost certainly cost Sherwood the chance of getting the Spurs gig full-time. Bah f*cking humbug indeed.
Betting: Southampton to beat Tottenham at 8/5 (Ladbrokes)

Swansea v Everton
Followers of this page will have enjoyed a nice touch last week when yours truly tipped up Leon Osman to score first at 12/1 and I am hoping to follow that with Romelu Lukaku at 11/2 this Sunday. Lukaku is everything you need in a top-flight player. Fast, direct and brave. And what an athlete. Such an athlete in fact that I heard a few years ago he was on holiday in France, went out for a casual bike ride and accidentally won the Tour de France.
Betting: Lukaku to score first at 11/2 (Coral)

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

Wenger hails important win

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
