Eye On The Experts: Alan Green

Is there room for at least one off-message, ornery bugger in the mainstream media. But is it miserablism dressed up as critique? The boys take a listen to Greeny...

croker (Arsenal) says...

He spends an awful lot of time airing various personal gripes which is fatal to radio commentary - we need to know what's occurring on the pitch not what some rotund egotist thinks about the commentary position or the referee. As someone who is so scathing and negative about the England team, why don't they give that gig to another commentator? And if it's true that a falling out with the Poor Man's Eamon Holmes contributed to Mark Saggers moving on and Radio Five airtime being polluted by Ian Payne and other lightweights, that's just criminal.

@JacobBurns you're exactly right. It's like he's doing us licence payers, who pay for his massive salary to basically commentate on 45 minutes of football once a week, a huge favour just by telling us how miserable he is.

JacobBurns (Leeds United) says...

That noisy bloke continually standing up in front of Alan is an idiot. The sandwiches are awful . The car park is a joke. And to top it all Alan is commentating on the worst game he has ever seen. I am not interested in your gripes, Alan.

Like being trapped by the pub bore, ranting. He is always right and will lecture you until its closing time and doesn't want to listen to your opinions. Actually, thinking about it, no wonder AG is a commentator as listeners can't respond...

e was right to leave, but not just because of the money City were coming into. If I remember rightly he had a reasonable amount of chances to shine at City, but he never passed the bloody ball. Loads of aimless dribbles and 40 yard shots and not much else. I would say that if he had learnt to be a bit more of a team player he may have done better at City.
