Boring Milner, Destroyer Of Perception...

He's hardworking, perhaps even underrated but, most of all, he'll always be boring James Milner. Not anymore, says Matt Stanger, amid talk of Milner playing the perfect hand...

@kop_it, you're right, we need Milner, the club know that and it's even reported on here that he was set to be offered a new deal along with Hart, Kolarov, Dzeko & Nasri. Wages will not be an issue. Barry & Lescott are the last of those players signed on the silly wages, the wages needed to attract players to City from better teams. The wage cap we're not allowed to exceed included Tevez, Adebayor(I believe) & Balotelli's wages, also included the pay off for Mancini and his staff. 2012-13 wages were the highest they are predicted to ever be. I'm not Milner's biggest fan, but he must stay. He will be staying.

If he engineers himself away and leave City short of their home grown. City cannot offer stupid money without offloading someone else. There transfer kitty is £49m net and their is to be no increase in wages. This is a stinger for City. Pelle needs to be really careful who he buys and for how much.

Yeah, the 'home grown' rules guarantee that players like Milner (or especially those actually trained at the club, who are counted as another category) are like gold dust. Hence the fact that, despite being linked with a move away every summer, Micah Richards has never been sold. The fact that Milner is so versatile also counts in his favour, especially now that City will have a reduced Champions League squad next season.

@ezy_ryder, I get your point! the thing with Milner is, well in my opinion anyway. He's a must start in big games, games we will need legs, work and grit. The problem for Milner seems to be, as I've seen it, he's great at working hard, he's a good forward defensively. Mourinho would love him. The main problem is, City mainly dominate possession against parked bus defences. Milner sometimes lacks the intricacy to break down defences. Great player, well loved and utilised by Manchester City. You're fight the media love to slam clubs for having English players on the bench. The same media would also slate England for starting Milner.

Zabbaman, according to Citeh's website that's only 21 starts for Milner (and only 12 in the league). Starts-wise overall, that's less than Toure, Nasri, Silva, Fernandinho, Jesus Navas, Javi Garcia, Paul Lake, David Oldfield... The point isn't that he's never getting his boots wet, it's more that he's just doing bits and bobs as a sub, and the media don't like seeing English players as bench fodder. Why this is a big deal I don't know

Barcelona transfer ban upheld

h Daniel. I could spend hours on this subject putting the world to rights. You can even take a step back and ask why football fans (and society in general) have this need to know that something will happen before it actually does. There are times this important, when it comes to things like war, food production and natural disasters. A man you've never met changing his job? Not so much.

reat article. Hits the nail on the head. Encapsulates why I don't read tabloid newspapers anymore. The only thing worse is the 'told you so first' headline when they get lucky.
