Right, so as a spectator you can only have an opinion on any game unless the team you support has won the competition? Grow up, I don't think AC Milan caving in should make it the greatest final ever. And you know what? I think I would think the same even if I was a Real Madrid or Benfica supporter. Sorry to hurt your feelings though.

@saywuut, I could also be bitchy and petty and say how would a Tottenham fan know what a great European Cup final looks like? It's not like you are going to find out anytime soon either.

@jd quench, touche, United beat us in the cup final that year but one should never be greedy, the double was an amazing feat. United's treble was and is truly remarkable and something I don't think will ever be repeated.

And Daniel Storey is also known for his loathing to even mention the Dambuster's of Chelsea in Munich....

yeh and people watch finals (well maybe not perennial neutrals) for things like amazing comebacks, and brilliant individual performances, if it was a 0-0 draw and went to penalties but the quality of football was outrageous people still wouldnt talk about it in years to come, the masses want poetry and drama, thats why we love football and thats what makes that final the greatest.

@ j.d quench. The decisions that went against Leeds that night in 1975 were scandalous. I know of a boy, just a couple of days shy of his eighth birthday, wearing a yellow kit that he received as an early birthday present, who was in buckets of tears at full time at the injustice of it all.

lfcfan80 - sorry my mistake, I meant the 75 and 76 finals. The 77 final you refer to was a mighty fine game as well as I recall. Although it was a pity your treble was dead in the water by then after the previous Saturday at Wembley...

yeh that one spurs played in was bett......oh wait, sorry i was interrupted by the sounds of bitterness. mate it was footballing poetry, whether you think the football was up to the standard or not is irrelevant, as far as storyline go it was an oscar winner.

h Daniel. I could spend hours on this subject putting the world to rights. You can even take a step back and ask why football fans (and society in general) have this need to know that something will happen before it actually does. There are times this important, when it comes to things like war, food production and natural disasters. A man you've never met changing his job? Not so much.

reat article. Hits the nail on the head. Encapsulates why I don't read tabloid newspapers anymore. The only thing worse is the 'told you so first' headline when they get lucky.
