Ronaldo And Necessary Self-Confidence

Cristiano Ronaldo is consistently tagged as an arrogant prima donna, but Daniel Storey thinks that's spectacularly missing the point. It's all about performance...

Oh dear, are you resorting to the 'Is your mummy not there' line. Really?, and the 'You sure you are not Phil Neville'. Thats your response? That's disappointing, here I thought you had something about you too Keashred The Paranoid Scouser. Here's a Marving quote that I think you will like. 'My capacity for happiness, you could fit in a matchbox without taking the matches out'. And on that delightful Marvin quote i think i'll depart these particular commenst now. Hugs xx

Hump3 do you come up with these jokes all by yourself? You must watch lots of tv when Mummy isn't there. Are you sure you are not Phil Neville?

@keashred, you should look up Marvin The Paranoid Android, i think you would like him. You could be Keashred The Paranoid Scouser. It's from The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which i should warn you is a series of books, not soap operas, so you may find it heavy going. Nice to see you laugh for the first time though.

Just a bit of pantomime villainy and superb football ability - I think he's magnificent. As for arrogant - if you can deliver, it's just confidence, rather than arrogance. @hump3. - Seven of Nine should be able to cry, being a human with cyborg bits'n'pieces attatched. Have a good, long look and tell me I'm wrong. Also, did Deckard not shed any tears? Pretty sure the underlying hint of the unicorn dreams was about him being a Replicant - despite him shedding blood and not being any stronger or faster than a regular human.

And chelseablue, that's CRon's problem. He does it all himself. He doesn't play for or with the team. His team is down to ten players when they don't have the ball because he won't do anything to help get it back. He expects everyone else to do the hard work and then give him the ball so he can score. You say he got them to the World Cup by winning the playoff with Sweden. Why didn't he do it against Isreal instead? Or in the home game against northern Ireland? A win instead of a draw in any of those three and there'd have been no need for a playoff. I laugh when I hear people point out that he scored a hat-trick away against northern Ireland and dragged them from 2-1 down to 4-2 winners, as though that result mattered. They finished seven points clear of Isreal. The could have lost that and still finished second by four points. It's genuinely baffling how he's captain. A good (but not great) player no doubt but he's about the last person you'd pick as captain. Well, maybe third last after Nani and Pepe.

You're right bemused, he did score in two European Cup finals but the fact that you even mentioned the second one shows that either it's you who doesn't watch football or you watch it through the rosiest of rose-tinted glasses because he contributed nothing but a couple of poor free kicks for 119 minutes only to score a penalty in the last minute of a game that was already won. It's amazing you'd claim that as evidence of having performed in a big game. On the first one, he scored early on, no argument there but he contributed little after that and missed his penalty in the shootout. No word of a lie when I say I'd love it if he played for Liverpool because he'd decimate small teams (which is something you need to challenge for the title, as Suarez showed this year) but I wouldn't play him in the big games. How did he do today by the way? I believe I said I expected him to be nearly anonymous. Moaning to the ref about not getting a penalty and some poor free kicks (even poorer than the European Cup final) were all I saw, aside from a shot on target early on which he probably should have crossed. I might be jealous but at least I can argue my case using the reality of the situation.

Chelsea_blue - the stage was set for him to do it all by himself (with the other big club players and champions league winners!) and..........and..........and, nothing. Some preening, some pouting some arm waving - what a captain

@tk421, Did he? Well, ok, I'll bow to your greater knowledge on that. I did google Seven of Nine to see if she had shed any tears, but I didn't get any further than looking at the pictures to be honest, just went with what I had.

lassic management. Build them up and then knock them back. Raise expectations and then dampen them. Create a dynamic where by you demand the most from your team, but where the team are given room to manoeuvre unexpected or unwanted results. Classy work by Van Gaal, he really reminds me a lot of me. A smart cookie, make no doubt.
