@alkaline: to be fair, De Vrij did concede a silly penalty (wrongly given, but it was foolish to go to ground). He's been okay, but Vlaar's been the real star in our defence for my money. What a rock. Robben just amazes me more and more in every game he plays. One Dutch pundit suggested that he's stopped diving of late because he's simply become too quick for anyone to even attempt to foul him. I'd say Quadrado deserves a look in too, but for the rest it's an excellent list.

I think I would put Daniel van Buyten in ahead of Rafa Marquez, but that's nit-picking. Excellent list.

For left backs I've also been impressed with junior Diaz of Costa Rica, would be a good defensive option in a squad for away European days, for example. Also...Feillani! Running with te ball, linking, turning into space, getting into finishing positions. Be interesting to see where he's played this yr as Moyes playing him deep was an odd choice given his value soared (paid by Moyes) when played higher up the pitch (also engineered by Moyes).

What no Suarez? Dragged his team through the group stages with 2 goals.

James (pronounced "Ham-ez" I have heard) Rodriguez should be on this list for his goal against Japan alone. RvP's diving header was a peach, Cahill's volley was explosive, Vargas' goal against Spain was incisive team play building to a crescendo than an ice cold finish, but James... Oh, James... The shimmy, the finish... Sublime.

ven if United were to sign CR7 & Messi to play upfront, the fact remains Fletcher and Cleverly are playing in midfield. That's where the problem is. Fletcher is too slow with an awful pass, while Cleverly is simply rubbish

rop Rooney (he's so disappointing, overrated and overpaid), and play Di Maria and RVP upfront, much like the set up at the Netherlands team with Roben and RVP...
