The on-loan Aston Villa forward has scored six times in 28 appearances so far this term, with his last goal coming in the 2-2 draw at Manchester United in February.

However, in the last two games he has lost his starting place in the side to 19-year-old Cauley Woodrow as new boss Felix Magath shakes things up in his attempts to keep Fulham in the Premier League.

Despite not starting, Bent has not lost his confidence and the 30-year-old has backed himself to score if given the chance on the club's next visit to Manchester - against title-chasing City on Saturday.

He told The Sun: "I want to do all I can to help Fulham stay up.

"If I'm involved, I'd always back myself to score."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
