Jermaine Beckford: Ready for his debut

The striker, 29, returned to action as a second-half substitute in Huddersfield's derby win at Leeds on Saturday following a two-month lay-off due to a hamstring injury and then flew out to Kingston to meet up with the Reggae Boyz on Sunday.

"I played on Saturday for about 20 minutes against (Jamaica team-mate) Rodolph Austin at Leeds and it felt good," Beckford told The Gleaner.

"Now I'm fit, ready and confident. I can't wait to score goals for Jamaica.

"Nobody has higher expectations than I have for myself in terms of coming out and putting on a performance and doing what I have to do in the game.

"I'm really excited about getting out there with them and add to what they are doing and what they have done so far."

Beckford, who qualifies through his Jamaican father, is hoping to make his debut at the National Stadium in Kingston against Panama on Friday before the Reggae Boyz travel to play Costa Rica four days later.

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
