Town turned in an accomplished performance at the City Ground on the opening day, especially in the first period, with Hogg outstanding in the centre of midfield before Forest cashed in on a defensive lapse through Henri Lansbury early in the second half to clinch a 1-0 win.

"I think the lads did really well in the first half; we passed the ball quite well and we really frustrated them in the way they wanted to play," said Hogg.

"We broke well a couple of times too. I think the lads really will have impressed in their first-half performance.

"We wanted to keep our shape. Forest is a difficult place to come to, especially on the first day of the season, but the fans were really up for it and the players were at it. We made it hard for them, but just one daft mistake and one goal cost us the game.

"We need to take the positives and move on. We have to look forward to the next game on Tuesday night."

Huddersfield take on West Yorkshire rivals Bradford, last season's beaten finalists, at the John Smith's Stadium in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
