Hammill was substituted on the hour mark at the DW Stadium and his response suggested he did not believe the decision was the correct one.

Robins confirmed after the game that Hammill had apologised to him but he insists the 25-year-old needs to change his attitude.

"Adam is going to end up paying us money to play for us because he's being fined every week," remarked Robins.

"Nothing really surprises me with Adam. That's just him - he needs to grow up.

"He's just been to see me and apologised and that's what happens - I fine him and we get on with it, until the next time."

Robins thought his side were unfortunate to lose the game, after bouncing back from the disappointment of going a goal behind to equalise through Oliver Norwood's deflected shot on the stroke of half-time.

Nick Powell fired the winner for Wigan, who had earlier led through Leon Barnett's third goal of the season, at the beginning of the second period.

But Robins felt the result didn't tell the full story of the game.

"I thought we did well," he added.

"To come to Wigan and have the lion's share of possession is very good.

"But obviously the over-riding emotion is one of disappointment because we have gifted them two goals. They have not had to work at all for their goals,

"We're playing against a good team who have just come down from the Premier League, the FA Cup holders, a team in the Europa League and we've given a decent account of ourselves.

"We are a work in progress but we can defend better and make better decisions at times.

"Overall I'm pleased but also disappointed that we've not taken at least a point - and maybe even three."

Latics chief Owen Coyle admitted his side had to dig deep but thought they were good value for a first win in five matches.

"I thought the first half was very much a controlled performance," the Wigan boss said.

"With a bit of luck we could have had two or three goals, such was our quality.

"Their goal wasn't even going in before it hit the heel of Ryan Shotton and deceived Lee Nicholls, who looked good value for another clean sheet.

"What we had to do in the second half was win the game again and we did that thanks to a great goal from Nick Powell.

"The lead we had was fragile but I thought we should have had a couple of penalties in the game.

"Marc-Antoine Fortune is clearly pulled over in the first half, whether the referee can't see that I don't know.

"Then in the second half, Marc Albrighton has put the ball past their defender who has absolutely cemented him.

"We've certainly not had our fair share of decisions this season and we had to stand up and be counted late on.

"Even then we could have added to our lead and, given the workload we've had, I was delighted with the three points."

m only commenting on this (I don't care about Liverpool) because F365's twitter said I had call Matt Stanger a tw*t (which I don't agree with anyway) but I just wanted to be the first. Am I the first?

unday, Sunday. Will there be a fan of either team, who if they are winning after 80 mins, won't still be nervous? This could be anything from 0-0 to 5-5, and no one would bat an eye.
