Striker Wells, signed from Bradford City for £1.3million in January, set up four goals as Huddersfield romped to a 5-0 win - their largest success of the season.

Wells scored in his first two appearances but has since gone seven matches without a goal.

The Bermuda striker was brought down in the box by keeper Luke Steele for a second-half penalty and grabbed the ball, desperate to take the spot-kick.

Designated penalty taker Adam Clayton over-ruled him and snatched the ball to fire home and make it 4-0.

Robins said: "Nahki was absolutely phenomenal and I just wish he could have got the goal his workrate deserved.

"He puts himself under pressure because he is a goalscorer and he wants to score, I understand that. But if he keeps working hard the goals will come."

Topscorer James Vaughan lost penalty duties to Clayton this season and Robins said: "We do things a certain way here.

"Clayton was right to take it as he is the penalty taker and Nahki will have to wait a little longer.

"I absolutely understand Nahki's feelings. He wanted to take the penalty and there's no doubt he would have scored."

Former Barnsley boss Robins praised keeper Alex Smithies despite the 5-0 scoreline and said: "He made an unbelievable save at 0-0 and was assured throughout. Barnsley are a decent side and have taken some big scalps.

"I don't take any extra satisfaction from it being Barnsley. We were exciting going forward and there were some big performances."

Wells' cross-cum-shot was turned in by Keith Southern on his first start since November for the 29th-minute opener before Wells crossed from the right and Danny Ward swept home three minutes later.

Wells was unlucky not to score after that when Steele saved with a outstretched leg and when he rounded the keeper a few minutes later his chip landed on the roof of the net.

Wells laid on Adam Hammill three minutes after the break when Steele parried but wasn't able to stop Hammill from scoring against his former club.

Clayton's penalty clinched it and substuitute Sean Scannell fired into the bottom corner late on to send Barnsley back to the foot of the Championship.

Tykes' boss Danny Wilson said his side had played well for the first half-an-hour and added: "Football is cruel sometimes.

"We are going to have bad days and this was a bad day but we need to knuckle down in training and make sure we don't give easy goals away.

"The goals we gave away were poor and we need to be more resilient."

Wilson expects an angry response after heated exchanges between fans and players and said: "The fans are passionate and you can't argue with the fans because they follow the club through thick and thin.

"We will get the flak, especially from our fans, but we have to take it on the chin."

Barnsley remain in touch at the bottom and Wilson added: "If you can find a silver lining from a 5-0 defeat then it is that it might not look as bad in the morning.

"I am frustrated and disappointed but it won't get me down. We don't have time to feel sorry for ourselves."

ven if United were to sign CR7 & Messi to play upfront, the fact remains Fletcher and Cleverly are playing in midfield. That's where the problem is. Fletcher is too slow with an awful pass, while Cleverly is simply rubbish
