The 30-year-old Huddersfield striker joined Latics on the final day of the January transfer window and went on to make five appearances for the club, although he failed to find the net during that period.

He was an unused substitute in the 2-2 draw with Tranmere at the weekend and returns to west Yorkshire with a clear message from Johnson.

"I really enjoyed working with Jon and would not rule out doing so again in the future," the Latics boss told the club's official website.

"I want to thank him for all his efforts on and off the field and wish him all the best."
