Defender Dudgeon (knee) and striker Fryatt (Achilles) have both been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery last week, but Bruce confirmed after the weekend win over Barnsley that he was not close to completing any deals.

"We've had a couple of injury setbacks this week, but to their credit the owners have told me to bring in a couple of players, if I can," Bruce said.

"I'd love to say we're close to doing something, but we aren't at the moment. I won't just bring in players to make up the numbers."
