The Lions won five of their six games during the month to move to the verge of the play-off places, with high-profile away victories coming at Blackburn and Wolves.

Jackett beat off competition from Charlton manager Chris Powell and Watford's Gianfranco Zola to win the award.

Although they lost last weekend at struggling Ipswich, Millwall sit handily placed in seventh and Jackett hopes to be able to kick on again during the busy Christmas and New Year period.

He told Sky Sports News: "I'm very pleased to get the award and it was a very good month for us, the players really rose to the occasion.

"If you look at the points total rather than the places, which most managers will do at this time of the season, there's a lot of sides with an opportunity to get into the top six.

"I'm pleased to say we are one of them, we lost at Ipswich last week and we want to bounce back with a good win at home to Leicester, followed up by an away trip to Brighton so there are some excellent games coming up for us - some big games and ones we are looking forward to."

When asked if fans would be thinking about automatic promotion, Jackett added: "I don't think so. I think that they will just look at the next batch of games.

"I've emphasised in my programme notes and in the local paper the importance of the next three games in eight days - a good eight days can really affect everything you are doing in terms of belief, in particular the confidence of the players, which can be fragile. If we can have a good eight days we can go into Christmas with some confidence."

Hull City striker Sone Aluko was named player of the month after scoring four goals in six games as the Tigers maintained their play-off position.
