Tom Cairney: Recovered from injury

Tom Cairney: Recovered from injury

The 21-year-old ended a period of nearly four months on the treatment table due to a knee injury when he came on as a substitute against Huddersfield on Saturday.

Steve Bruce's side went on to win that game 2-0, their third straight victory, to leave them just three points off Championship pacesetters Cardiff.

Cairney revealed his relief at returning to first-team action in a second-half cameo and conceded the Tigers' recent good form made his reintegration easier.

"There were a few butterflies when the manager told me I was going on because I'd been out for a long time and we were 1-0 up," he told Hull's official website.

"To be back out there was a great feeling, though, and because the team and the players are full of confidence, it makes it a bit easier for me.

"The boys are flying at the moment and it's been a struggle just to get back into the squad.

"With the ability that we've got in the squad, we've definitely got a good chance of doing something this season and the belief is there within the changing room to achieve that."
