Bruce's men beat Middlesbrough 1-0 on Saturday to go three points clear of closest rivals Watford, who could only take a point from their clash with leaders Cardiff.

The Tigers are safe in the knowledge that if they win all of their remaining five league games they are guaranteed Barclays Premier League football next season.

Bruce told the club's official website: "It's in our hands and that is all we could have asked for.

"We did miss an opportunity last week (against Watford) in a game that could have gone either way, but we came back on Saturday and produced a performance that wasn't great, but it was one where our guts got us through it and put the pressure back on others.

"We go to Ipswich now and we'll see where we are after that.

"We've got to play better than we did against Middlesbrough at the weekend, we understand that.

"But when it comes to resilience, we've shown it and as a manager you have to be pleased about that. We keep bouncing back and repeatedly show resilience, and that shows why we are near the top of the league.

"The players here have a go. Even when they're not playing well, they roll their sleeves up and keep at it."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
