The former Tottenham man has been tipped as a potential outside bet for England's World Cup squad after an outstanding start to the season.

He has not quite hit the same heights in recent weeks, but Bruce is not worried.

"I wouldn't say his form has tailed off, because he's set himself very high standards," said Bruce.

"We were all waxing lyrical after we beat Fulham, saying that he was the greatest player the club's ever seen. Of course, it's a long, long season

"There's no doubting Tom's ability, he'll always have that. Just now he's maybe not playing as well as he did two months ago but he'll be back to his best.

"We're seeing it with the great players. Mesut Ozil has gone from up at the top of his game to a dip. It happens.

"Football is a game when one day you're up and the next you're not, but you have to stay with it and stay strong.

"Make no mistake, he's had a huge impact since he's come here and he'll see it through."
