Wright felt his charges slackened off in the second period at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, with Saints thinking ahead to next weekend's Scottish Cup final against Dundee United.

Second-half goals from Ryan Christie and Greg Tansey handed Caley Thistle a deserved victory on the final day of the Scottish Premiership season, securing them fifth place ahead of the Saints.

Wright said: "The main thing for us coming here was to get the three points and we didn't get them.

"In the first half, I felt we were quite good and were looking the more dangerous team, but poor decision-making cost us. However, it was a poor performance second half.

"It's perhaps understandable that the players have one eye on next week, but they are hurting just now because they wanted to finish fifth.

"The good thing about this defeat is that come Monday morning it will be quite easily forgotten about as we've now got something really special to look forward to."

Caley Thistle manager John Hughes was pleased to see his side claim their first victory since the league split, even more so given some players were having to play slightly out of position.

Ross Draper, Marley Watkins and Graeme Shinnie were all deployed in different roles because of injuries and suspensions.

Hughes said: "We managed to keep a clean sheet, win 2-0 and get that fifth place in the table.

"We played some good stuff, even in the first half. However, we stepped up the tempo in the second half and got our reward.

"It's a right good bunch of boys here. Ross Draper has filled in at centre-half, Graeme Shinnie has played in midfield again and Marley Watkins has gone up top, so they are very receptive to anything that you throw at them."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
