Improvement pleases Brazil

Nottingham Forest boss Gary Brazil was giving little away about his own future after gaining a morale-boosting point at play-off rivals Ipswich Town.

Brazil was unable to stop the rot in his second game in temporary charge after a 1-1 draw saw Forest extend their winless run to 10 games.

But he was left buoyed by a performance which saw skipper Danny Collins give Forest a dream start after just four minutes before Ipswich pegged them back with a Daryl Murphy header with 12 remaining.

After being quizzed about his future in the top job, Brazil simply said: "I will come in for training on Monday unless I am told otherwise.

"I am sure I will speak with the owner over the weekend and there was a massive improvement from Tuesday night's defeat to Charlton.

"I am sure he will be looking at all avenues but while I have got the job, I will do it to the best of my ability. The players have been fantastic."

Brazil admitted Forest owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi was at Portman Road to see his side battle to a point and that the pair had spoken straight after the match.

But Brazil refused to answer whether an appointment was imminent or whether a quick decision was needed with just seven matches left this season.

Forest got off to a flyer after Collins rose highest to guide Daniel Fox's corner perfectly beyond Dean Gerken.

Ipswich initially responded well, but slowly Forest gained control and should have doubled their advantage before half-time after some indecision in the Town ranks allowed Jamie Paterson to sprint clear but he was denied by the legs of home keeper Gerken.

For the second successive match, Mick McCarthy went for broke by fielding three recognised strikers after the interval and playmaker Jonny Williams just behind.

And it again paid off thanks to Murphy's 78th-minute equaliser.

In truth, they were only denied three points by the agility of Forest keeper Karl Darlow, who made three fantastic saves to deny Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Murphy and Frank Nouble.

Town boss McCarthy felt a point apiece was a fair reflection of the 90 minutes.

He said: "We were outplayed in the first half and they were very good. Dean Gerken was man-of-the-match at half-time and Karl Darlow was man-of-the-match in the second half.

"We could have won it, but we could have been 3-0 down. We were excellent in the second half and we would have liked to have won it, but I am pleased with seven points from nine.

"We have a terrific team spirit and without that, you don't get that kind of result.

"I can't put enough emphasis on that - and we have it in abundance."

terling needs to be told though that upon entering the Arsenal squad he will re-enact the final scene from Highlander where he will be thrown around a warehouse by cartoon dragons and then be a mere mortal that will only ever spend three to four weeks a season playing football and the rest on the physio's bed. There can be only one.....player available at The Emirates.

he game changed in our favour when Carrick came on. We were able to play further up the pitch due to having a player who can give and go with the ball and keep possession. Yet barkley made some runs and Townsend scored a good goal but carrick's inclusion and chiellini's withdrawal made the biggest difference to the flow of the game

o, you've not silenced anyone Andros, i'm afraid. We know you can score a great goal, and it's really handy to have your direct running and willingness to shoot on the bench. But until you can do the other things expected of a winger (beat the man, put a decent cross in, stay wide etc) then you can't expect more than a regular cameo. Wonderful goal though, what a hit! No wonder Buffon wanted the shirt.
