Still 'Borderline Aspergers', Boys?

The way that Andre Villas-Boas was treated in his first weeks in the Spurs job was tantamount to bullying. Now they're all saying 'oh maybe we were wrong'. Yes you were...

Excellent article Mr Nic, and one which perfectly illustrates just how far the British press have their tongues up the collective jacksie of the Redknapp clan. The bullying of AVB at the start of the season was quite obviously punishment for the despicable crime of being nasty to poor ickle Frankie. Remember the outrage when he was being played every single game?

Maybe there is a point about getting the best from quality players (Falcao is just class, so we can't use him as an example). Look at Hulk now. He looked amazing under AVB at Porto and got his big money move. Now (if the reports I hear are true) is playing pretty poorly in Russia. Bale is the same, the occasional moment of amazingness last season to this season where he does it pretty much every game. Maybe this is an argument that you can't just buy amazing expensive players and be successful without a decent manager. Mancini is still arse though.

Well said, John. I'm not always a fan of your columns, but when you hit the nail on the head like this I have to hold my hands up and acknowledge your good work. A splendid point, well-made and without overdoing it or becoming wilfully provocative.

It has much to do with the culture at Chelsea as well. How many quality managers have Chelsea chased away? Sometimes by their insane owner, but often with the approval of their insane supporters!! It is happening again now in fact. If you listen to most Chelsea supporters, a manager who has won the Champions League and is the only manager to break the Barcelona-Real Madrid duopoly in the last decade, is the very worst manager on the planet. According to Chelsea supporters they know much more about managing a football club than either Benitez or AVB (despite the vast amounts of success both have had). It speaks to the knee-jerk nature of the press, but also the knee-jerk nature of the plastic Chelsea supporters!! It just so happens that club gets exactly the outcomes their supporters deserve.

It does help that Spurs is run vaguely intelligently as a football club, and not as the football equivalent of the X-Factor (part fickle popularity contest, part freak show)

agree with everything except the point about the press being against him at Spurs because he was a foreigner taking an Englishman's job. Even if an Englishman had replaced Redknapp the reaction would have been the same as Redknapp is the media darling. If anything the press instantly assume foreign managers are better.

F365 ... We get it, you don't like 'Arry you do like Villas-Boas ... you say it over and over and over again ... same goes with your dislike of Joe Hart ..... You think Brendan Rodgers talks s**t, ..... you dont like Mark Lawenson ..... Wenger said 'fourth place trophy' once ...... stop saying the same things over and over again.

ood one David, best sneak in there quickly and nab him before the everyone else realises that the £18M eighteen year old Chelsea bought in 2011 is one for the future. Maybe try and get Courtois on the cheap too before anyone else realises his potential.
