Villarreal have signed Argentinian forward Alejandro Martinuccio on a six-month loan from Fluminense, the Spanish club have announced.

The 24-year-old former Penarol player will join up with his new team-mates on Thursday after the clubs beat the transfer deadline to push the deal through.

In a statement, Villarreal said: "Villarreal CF and Fluminense FC have reached a transfer agreement for the Argentinian forward Alejandro Martinuccio, who will be a part of the Submarine first team until the end of the current season."

Brazilian club Fluminense, in their own statement, said the deal contained an option for Villarreal to buy Martinuccio in the summer.

Martinuccio struggled for form following his move from Uruguayans Penarol to Fluminense last year, and managed just one goal in 15 appearances.

Villarreal are in relegation danger, standing 18th in the 20-team Primera Division.

bsolutely delighted for Chelsea, what a story. Particularly happy for Drogba to (possibly) sign off a career on such a high note. Wonder how the spurs fans are feeling tonight.

eah yeah, whatever fatty. Keep trying to talk down a competition you'll never play in. I bet you'll get relegated next season and claim the 38th game is more important than the CL final too.
