Barcelona defender Marc Muniesa is set to be sidelined for six months after damaging knee ligaments during the club's opening pre-season friendly against Hamburg.

The Spain Under-21 international suffered the injury at the start of the second half of the 2-1 victory and tests ave confirmed that he has snapped the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

It will be decided in the next few days when the 20-year-old will undergo surgery but he is expected to be out of action for six months, Barca announced on their website.
