Sergio Busquets: Ready to push on

Sergio Busquets has insisted he feels fit and ready for the new season despite his exertions at the European Championship this summer.

The Barcelona midfielder started all six of Spain's games as they retained their title and said he is yet to experience the difference in coaching styles between Tito Vilanova and Pep Guardiola as at this stage of pre-season training is very much in the hands of the club's physical preparation team.

He told the club's website, "Until now it is the same. We have had four days of training and for these days the physical trainers are the ones in charge.

"I think I am prepared. If I'm lucky with injuries and tiredness I hope to return to the same level this year. "

And the 24-year-old isn't concerned with rumours linking Barca with other defensive midfielders or even central defenders that could see Javier Mascherano return to playing more in midfield.

"The coach and the technical secretary are those that evaluate the positions they want to reinforce. If a player with similar characteristics to me arrives it will be for the best of the team. I will always try to win my place in the team and will train at my maximum to achieve it."

Busquets is also relishing the chance to face some of his Spanish teammates early in the season as Barca face Real Madrid in a two-legged tie for the Spanish Super Cup and whilst he recognises the importance of beating their eternal rivals, he said it is more important to be prepared for another long and demanding season.
