Roma defender Marquinhos' agent has played down talk linking him with a move to Barcelona.

Marquinhos has established himself as one of the best young defenders in Europe after impressing at Roma over the last 12 months.

Barcelona are thought to be keeping tabs on the Brazilian as they continue their search for a new central defender.

Marquinhos' agent, Roberto Calenda, is not surprised if there is interest in his client, but says he remains committed to Roma.

"The interest of Barcelona? He is a Roma player and he remains at Rome," Calenda to Radio Sportiva.

"It is inevitable that there are interests for a player so young and already regular in an important team.

"He still has a four-year contract with Roma and then I would not do fantasy flights."

resumably, you wanted to keep the version of Downing that was never seen at Anfield. The one that another manager has managed to re-create. The one you passed over.
