Powell: Keen on progress next season

Powell is playing down expectations amid comparisons between the Addicks and Norwich and Southampton, who have both won back-to-back promotions to earn places in the Premier League.

"I think we need to consolidate, that's what we have to look at first. We've earned the right to get into the Championship and now we must do what we've got to do as a club," Powell told the club's official website.

"People want us to emulate Norwich and Southampton, but they are their own football clubs and it's up to us what we have to do here. If that's consolidation, we'll take it. If we are in a better place, then we'll take that.

"But I just think that after what has happened to our football club in the past seven years, we just have to make sure we move forward bit by bit.

"It's been a great season for us and a huge leap in the future of this club. We'll do our best to make sure we keep moving forward next season."
