Evans: Conviction not a distraction for Blades

Leading goalscorer Evans, 23, started a five-year prison term last Friday after being found guilty of rape and the Blades went on to lose their first game in 10 the following day, which left them only one point ahead of Sheffield Wednesday in the race for automatic promotion.

When asked if his players had suffered a reaction Wilson said: "No. We're professional players and that's always where we'll fall back to.

"Everybody has setbacks up and down the country, no matter what it is, and it shows your true character if you can come through that and that's what we'll do.

"We're not going to offer any excuses and there will be none offered as we go along. We'll go about our business as we normally do.

"We want to finish the season off and finish it well and this weekend [against Stevenage] is obviously a great game for everybody to be involved in."
