The O's only secured their League One safety last weekend despite falling to another defeat at McSweeney's old club Hartlepool, as Notts County condemned Wycombe to relegation instead.
Orient can therefore relax when they host Rochdale on Saturday but McSweeney is already looking forward to the next campaign.
"It's not the way we wanted to do things," he admitted.
"But we'll take that, learn our lessons from this season and hopefully push on next year."
