The Blades lost out to Sheffield Wednesday as the race for a top-two finish was settled on the final day and will now take on Stevenage, with whom they drew 2-2 in their last home game, for the first leg of their play-off semi-final on Friday.

Boss Wilson, who will be without suspended striker James Beattie as well as leading goalscorer Ched Evans for the play-offs, said: "We're now in the play-offs and everyone, although disappointed not to have gone up in second, is determined to finish the job off.

"We've shown excellent character all season and to get 90 points and not win promotion is a tough one to accept.

"But the lads will be fully focused come Friday night and we go there confident of getting a positive result."
