The players in question remain unnamed but the 2012 Johnstone's Paint Trophy winners, who were also relegated from League One after just one campaign in the third tier, hope to be able to announce at least one new signing some time this week.

Spireites chief executive Chris Turner is targeting an immediate return to League One next season.

He said: "Things are starting to take shape as the club has several players in its sights.

"We are all looking forward to an exciting new season for the fans to enjoy with promotion our ultimate prize."
