Welsh was hampered by a long-term calf injury last season as the Cumbrians just missed out on the play-offs, going into the final day in contention before finishing four points adrift of sixth-placed Stevenage.

"Home form is vital, as we saw last season, and hopefully we'll carry that on," Welsh told the club's official website. "If we pick up results on the road as well then I don't see why we won't be pushing for the top six at least.

"It's a new season and you go into it hoping the team will do well because it brings a buzz to the whole place.

"The summer months always bring new signings and there could be a few who move on - the really interesting part for us all is that we just don't know which way it will go.

"On the pitch I think if you have a set way you play and a decent bunch of lads who are going to give it a good go then you're in with a shout."
