The 24-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Latics and is relishing the prospect of regular first-team football.

"I had never played a full season and been a regular in the side. It is important I start playing 40-45 games a season," he told the club's official website.

"The way the manager spoke to me and how keen he was to get the deal done and get me here convinced me this was the club for me.

"He is really behind me and trusts me as a player and to showcase what I can do.

"I know what this division is about. Before last season I didn't know much about League One but, after those two loan spells (with Chesterfield and Yeovil), I now know much about it."
