Robinson was so displeased with the playing surface that he contemplated calling off the match.

He told the club's official website: "That pitch was difficult, I told the players to play at 60 per cent because it's not good for our preparation.

"We had planned for most of our starting XI to start the game and play 90 minutes but I couldn't allow it.

"I was debating whether or not to play the game but as I came out to the pitch to call it off I saw how many of fans we had brought and it would have been unfair to them and the Kettering fans who had paid good money to get into the stadium.

"Unfortunately, we felt we couldn't put on a performance - it was more a kick-about in the park."
