Appleton, who has impressed while working against a chaotic off-field backdrop at Pompey, is one of a host of names tipped to replace Owen Coyle, who was sacked after a poor start to the Championship season earlier this week.

Speculation linking the 36-year-old with the post has gathered pace amid local media reports suggesting the Wanderers board are keen to make a youthful appointment and shun more experienced contenders such as former Republic of Ireland, Sunderland and Wolves boss Mick McCarthy.

But Appleton told The News he will continue with his job as normal unless Portsmouth administrator Trevor Birch tells him otherwise.

"From my point of view, until I'm contacted by Bolton or any other club out there or I'm contacted by the administrator to tell me there's an interest, I'll continue to work with the players," he said.

"They deserve my full, 100 per cent commitment. I'll continue to do that until I know differently."

t's why Mourinho is so successful. He gives players a specific, limited set of functions to perform. They are but a cog in a machine. Do no more, do no less. I assume he learnt it from LvG :)

really hope that someone in the mainstream media spots that the Bayern manager played for and managed Barcelona quite well, and thinks to mention it in the build up. That would be really interesting.
