Graham Westley admitted Preston paid the price for playing with fear after shipping an equaliser to draw with Brentford.

Westley: Calls for ruthless approach

And after Antonio German's last-minute leveller, Westley urged his players to go for the jugular in the future.

North End looked to be heading for all three points after Scott Laird put them ahead just after the hour mark but German popped up to nod home and pinch a 1-1 draw for the Bees. Westley still saw his side extend their unbeaten run - but also make it four home matches without a win - and he is convinced they should have gone for the kill when they were ahead.

"I thought we settled for 1-0. It didn't matter what instructions I sent onto the pitch I couldn't get the team to play on the front foot," said Westley. "In football, if you're not going forward and trying to score the only thing that's going to happen is you'll concede - and that's the lesson the team will learn.

"Our strength this season has been getting goals and we should be playing to our strengths. When you're 1-0 up you should play with a next-goal mentality and make it 2-0 because if you concede then you still get the three points.

"You're much stronger defensively when you've got the ball and I think the team knows it and they're frustrated with themselves. They're honest lads and they're intelligent and I think they'll grasp the nettle. We're six unbeaten now, which is a better run of form than we've seen previously, and I'm sure the team will keep getting stronger."

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

H

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
