Curle: Impressed with Magpies

Alan Judge's terrific first-half effort proved enough for the Magpies' first triumph on home soil since September 22, but they were thankful for a top display by goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski and a defiant defensive performance to give them the three points.

"I'm pleased in a number of ways," said Curle. "The first-half performance showed the football traits we are trying to bring into this football club and second half we needed that resilience that we have had in our away form and I thought it was there in buckets.

"They put us under pressure but we were able to stand up to the task. I've been an advocate of keeping our performance levels up as results will come and that has happened."

County signed veteran striker Chris Iwelumo on loan from Watford before the emergency loan window shut on Thursday and Curle was happy with his, and his heroic goalkeeper's, displays.

"Chris did what Chris does and what he has always done - he is a focal point and a platform to play off and build off. I know what he is capable of and I know he won't run the channels or outpace centre-backs but he is something different to what we have got," Curle said. "Bartosz was terrific - he likes clean sheets. Some of the things he stopped and got in the way of were great and it was a very good performance."
