Pentney signed for the U's in the summer of 2010 but has failed to make a single first-team appearance, instead spending time on loan at Bath City, Hayes & Yeading and Chelmsford.

Manager Joe Dunne told the official website: "Carl has been very patient in his time with us but it is time he was playing first-team football.

"As with a few others, I cannot offer him that here so we feel that releasing him from his contract is the fairest thing to do and we wish him well for the future."
