Akinde, 23, was signed by former manager Steve Evans in June 2011 from Bristol City and made 40 appearances for the club - 32 as a substitute - and scored one goal.

Current Town boss Richie Barker told the club website: "John has turned down several offers to go on loan this season and we he has now decided to look elsewhere to re-start his career.

"We thank him for his services to the club and wish him all the best for the future."
