Paterson: Saddlers are tough

Walsall showed their mental toughness when they came from behind to beat Oldham, according to Jamie Paterson.

The 21-year-old winger added two late goals to help secure a 3-1 win after Latics had taken the lead in the opening 20 minutes.

The Saddlers came into the game on the back of a shock defeat against Colchester which ended their four-match winning run, but Dean Smith's side recovered from the early setback to move within four points of the play-offs.

And Paterson believes the performance proved that they are well equipped to continue their climb up the table.

"It shows what a good team we have here because we didn't crumble when we fell behind," he told the club's official website.

"Maybe a couple of years ago we would have done, but we kept our heads up, kept talking to each other and got our reward in the end.

"We must try and get ourselves on another run now and see where it takes us. We've showed that we can compete with and beat some of the best sides in League One, so we have nothing to fear."

Paterson's double took his tally for the season to nine, which is just one short of his pre-season aim.

He added: "I said at the start of the season that I would have been happy with ten goals, but now I'm just one off that target I want to get as many as I can."

"I'm the type of player who will always try something different. Sometimes it will come off and sometimes it won't. Thankfully on Saturday it did."
