Coventry could recall Cody McDonald from his loan spell at Gillingham as they aim to add more firepower to their play-off push.

The Sky Blues crashed to a 1-0 home defeat to Yeovil at the weekend just five days after drawing another blank as they were beaten 3-0 by Crewe.

City have managed just 10 goals in nine games since 17-goal striker David McGoldrick saw his loan spell come to an end at the start of January, compared to the 20 they managed during the nine games leading up to his departure.

McDonald was sent to Gillingham on a three-month loan deal on January 25 although Coventry do boast a recall clause after 28 days. And after the striker netted his third goal in four appearances for the Gills at the weekend, it is something Coventry boss Mark Robins is weighing up.

"That's good because that's why he's gone there, to try to find his scoring touch," said Robins in the Coventry Telegraph after hearing of McDonald's latest strike.

"There's a recall clause in there, so we'll have a look; we've had a little bit of a barren patch so it's an obvious question to ask, but I won't over-react to that.

"But I will be looking to add some firepower because that's clearly something that needs addressing.

"We need somebody who is regularly sticking the ball in the back of the net, and the way that we play it's got to be a certain type of striker - and somebody we can afford."
