Greg Abbott: Unhappy with first-half showing

A cracking long-range drive from James Berrett on the stroke of half-time was not enough to save the Cumbrians after Akpo Sodje's brace and skipper Paul Reid's strike saw the Iron run out 3-1 winners.

"We had been on a good run, and got some momentum going," he declared. "We had done the hard work, but to keep that run going we have to come to places like Scunthorpe and get a result.

"But we have shot ourselves in the foot, particularly in the first half. Scunthorpe have begun to turn the corner and put us on the back foot - there was a zest and a zip about their play.

"The goal just on half-time was a lifeline for us and it was a different story in the second half.

"I thought with our second-half performance we just about deserved to get something out of the game, but their goalkeeper has pulled off a couple of good saves and it was not to be.

"Now we have got to pick ourselves up and go again. But it was disappointing because we have lost that momentum that was lifting us up the table."
