Hartlepool boss John Hughes is hoping to secure the services of former Newcastle youngsters Dennis Knight and Michael Riley.

John Hughes: Could hand duo short-term deals

The duo have been training with Pools since their recent release from St James' Park, with forward Knight scoring twice for the reserves last week.

"We'll try to do something with Dennis and Michael looking to the end of the season," Hughes told the Northern Echo.

"There's two months to go, so let's see if they can grab it by the horns a take a chance.

"We'll get to know their character and see what they can do.

"Both have done well in the past couple of weeks and they could maybe help us."
