Mark Beck was the hero for the Cumbrians, scoring within five minutes of coming off the bench to cancel out Adam Chicksen's first-half opener.
He said: "We deserved our equaliser and could have nicked it. Both sides had chances to seal it.
"It was not always pretty, but sometimes you have to play ugly. The game was no classic, but we toughed it out and more than matched them.
"We took a while to get going. With Danny Livesey coming off we found it difficult to organise and their goal came while he was off. We changed things at half time and were much better."
