Despite dominating the first half Brentford rarely looked like breaking down a resolute Walsall rearguard. The closest they came was when Saddlers defender Andy Taylor almost put into his own net but saw his volley bounce to safety off the upright.

Brentford's Italian striker Marcello Trotta twice created good chances for himself but visiting keeper Aaron McCarey was equal to both.

And afterwards Rosler admitted it was two points dropped against the Saddlers, despite their record of winning six of their previous eight outings.

He said: "We needed a lot more energy and to play at a higher tempo. And that is something I will be looking at addressing at the next game. I will be definitely making some changes because we have to show a lot more energy.

"When you look at this game and the game against Bury you could easily say that we should have had four more points. But respect to Walsall who came and made it very difficult for us and looked to play on the counter."

Rosler meanwhile was pleased with the loan debut of Bradley Wright-Phillips and insisted Brentford fans will see a lot more from the diminutive striker.

He said: "He hadn't had a lot of match time but he showed great touch and movement and that is what we are looking for right now. But if you want to be a promotion side then as a whole we need to learn to deal with different situations in different ways.

"Having said that we didn't do anything wrong but we do need to learn how to play against sides that come and put a lot of people behind the ball."
