The high-flying Glovers returned to winning ways after a midweek defeat at Colchester courtesy of Ed Upson's second-half free-kick.

Johnson was delighted with his side's energetic display, which saw the Glovers extend their impressive League One run to nine wins in 11 - and seven successive home victories.

He said: "We've had that little blip now. All teams are going to have a time when they get beaten, so we needed to bounce back. This was a big game against one of our main promotion rivals.

"We needed a result and the boys worked hard to stay in the game. I think there is no way anyone can say we didn't deserve to win. We had plenty of chances and scored from a set-play.

"When you go a goal up it gives everyone the confidence to get on the ball, and we played some good stuff on a difficult surface. We knew they were going to go slightly longer to the big lads up front, but we dealt with that and went up the other end and created chances.

"I haven't looked at the table yet, it's too early, but I know the results and they matter. There's a couple of teams having a longer blip than we have had, and we have been in a good run of form over the last 12 games.

"The support we're getting is growing and the fans are getting behind us. They are seeing their team giving absolutely everything."

he uber commercialisation of the 90s has led to the point where this overly familar, try hard, jolly hockey sticks type fronts up a major football match on a weekly basis. Unlike the great presenters of yesteryear, I doubt he would even recognise the scent of Brut.
