The 23-year-old winger was named League Two player of the year with Swindon last season and, having joined Bournemouth in January, landed the League One award this term.

With the Cherries pushing for promotion to the Championship, Ritchie could find himself stepping up another division next season.

"It would be nice to be in the Championship, that's our aim at Bournemouth now," he said.

"I can't wait for the season to take shape. It's very tight at the top but we have to keep going for the final push.

"We've won three games on the bounce so we are back on a little run and hopefully we can continue that for the rest of the season.

"I didn't expect the award. To win two years on the bounce, I'm speechless."

S I've always envisioned him as a Pirlo or a Scholes, though he needs some of Andy Murray's conditioning and shiny, ankle supports to keep his own from buckling under the tackles that will (inevitably) come his way. He's got the physique and low centre of gravity to flourish, but needs to make himself more resilient.

s a United fan I fell I can say this without accusation of bias, Sergio Aguero is for me the only player close to Ronaldo or Messi, what goes against him is his injury record, Hazard is good in fits but doesn't give enough end product in my eyes, Tevez would be 4th for me
