The Millers have already made seven signings as they prepare for life in League One, but Evans is searching for an elusive striker.

He saw Falkirk's Lyle Taylor reject his side in favour of Sheffield United last week, but is closing in on a number of targets.

"We are still one or two short," Evans said. "The chairman has been fantastic and we are working on things.

"If we can get something sorted before the weekend then we will be ready and it's two weeks early. We won't be worried about the transfer window closing because we'll be ready.

"We are very optimistic, but it is about getting the whole package together."

Evans has been on the look-out for a frontman for much of his time at the club, missing out on a host of players last season.

He has brought in Aldershot's Danny Hylton to join Daniel Nardiello, Alex Revell and Kieran Agard and he is happy with their pre-season showing.

"If we haven't signed a striker and we are talking about it in April having won promotion I'll be able to smile," he added.

"My strikers are scoring in pre-season, I couldn't be any more pleased. We are very, very happy but we want one more."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
